Les Douceurs pour Fromages

We discovered a new indulgence at the grocery store.  Well, two actually, since one of them is the entire cheese department.  The other is a quince preserve with thyme and rosemary from France.  Omg.  Happy mouth.  :D

Oh right... the cheese.  This is Pont L'Eveque, which is kind of like Limburger's gentler cousin with better manners.  We wanted to get the smelliest cheese they had at Superquinn, and owing to Irish sensibilities this was the most powerful cheese we could come up with.  It has er... shall we say, an odor.  Un parfum.  Ok, it's a bit smelly, but in nice way with a pleasant cheesy aesthetic.  Not a sweaty Birkenstocks odor like Limburger.  Anyway, the smell is the strongest thing about it, and it goes great with herby quince spread.  The preserve is from Favols.

Very old post box

We found this post box near the entrance to a former British military barracks in Dublin, now housing the Decorative Arts & History Museum.  It took us a moment to realise the V R on the top of the box refers to Victoria Regina, and we figured this must have been installed some time around 1900.  I think it's great that the Irish Post office has taken it over and is still using it!

Rainbows and Mushrooms

I saw both of these things in my back yard on Sunday.  There was a perfect rainbow that went from ground-to-sky-to-ground, alas no pots of gold.  There were also these funny mushrooms in my lawn.  The last time I mowed it, I was too lazy to pick up the grass with the grass catcher so I just let all the clippings mulch the yard.  Well, about a week later these guys popped up!  My Complete Irish Wildlife book (by Paul Sterry) says they are Shaggy Ink Cap, Coprinus comatus.

Cafe en Seine II

We went back to Cafe en Seine for lunch again.  I am always amazed by the decor here; it reminds me of the eclectic hodge-podge of antiques in Hearst Castle in San Simeon, California.  It's as if someone had too much money and didn't know what to do with it and they told the decorator, "Oh heck.  Just put it all in.  Make it fit somehow."  Haha anyway I had a fantastic BLT with avocado, and a bowl of spicy squash soup.  The soup had chillies in it so it had a nice bite without being too hot.  My other half ordered the turkey burger and we both got Cokes in these cute little bottles.
