Eddie Rocket's didn't suck!

We had lunch at Eddie Rocket's on O'Connell Street on Saturday while we were in town doing our shopping.  This time I didn't make the mistake of ordering their chicken-mc-nuggets monstrosity and got a proper hamburger instead.  Correction:  I got a bacon burger.  As any denizen of the Interwebs knows, everything goes better with bacon.

My other half ordered a Moby Dick and before you get any weird ideas,  that's a fish burger.  I ordered the Kama Sutra, and before you get any weird ideas... haha just kiding.  Nuyk nyuk nyuk.  (I'm such a dork sometimes.)  We also got a side of garlic fries, which came in a cereal bowl and was soaking in some kind of garlicky cheesy white sauce.  Even though the presentation was not appetizing--seriously the only thing served swimming in a cereal bowl should be cereal--we succumbed to its cheesy goodness.  It was messy.  It was greasy.  It was good.  I think psychologists must design the menu here.  There is some kind of innate guilty pleasure we feed by ordering food like this.  Of course we got Cokes, and thoroughly enjoyed our burgers.

Lo and behold!  While we were eating, the Johnny Cash song that I put 20-cents in the jukebox for back in May finally came up.  Well, good things come to those who wait.  I finally got to hear One Piece at a Time with my meal.  Still no Ring of Fire but I expect that will come up if we return next March.  All in all it was a good meal and we will be back.

Well, I left Kentucky back in '49
An' went to Detroit workin' on a 'sembly line
The first year they had me puttin' wheels on cadillacs.

Every day I'd watch them beauties roll by
And sometimes I'd hang my head and cry
'Cause I always wanted me one that was long and black.

One day I devised myself a plan
That should be the envy of most any man
I'd sneak it out of there in a lunchbox in my hand
Now gettin' caught meant gettin' fired
But I figured I'd have it all by the time I retired
I'd have me a car worth at least a hundred grand.

  1. bacon burger? it sure looks tasty, but as a vegetarian I won´t eat stuff like that.
and Johnny Cash should be a perfect mood setting music in a place like that, wish they had something similar in here, but in estonia, it´s almost impossible to find a restaurant or pub with a jukebox :(

  3. Those lyrics remind me of The Shawshank Redemption plot. Love that movie - have to pull out the DVD and watch it again soon.

  4. Usagi-chan, that's too bad there are no American-style diners in Estonia. They are loads of fun. If you ever get the chance, go to an In-N-Out Burger. They have them in California, Nevada, Arizona and Texas. OH wait... you're a vegetarian. Well, you'd probably like California anyway. You could probably find a soy-milkshake and a portobello mushroom burger in Berkeley. Or Marin. Bunch of hippies up there. And God help you if you ever go to Oregon. You'll never want to leave. Your karma will bliss out on the political correctness of it all.

You know, they serve stuff like free-range cruelty-free organic vegan ketchup. They read the tomatoes a bedtime story before they pick them and then a Wiccan priestess casts a sage-incense cleansing spell on the bottles. The whole state is like a Phish concert where nobody left, so they built towns and set up Volvo repair shops. Vegetarian heaven. Eugene is such a rain-forest. It's practically a mushroom factory.

    1. If you do a google search for Seeburg Jukebox Chrome you should come up with a number of jukebox restoration sites that sell these. The unit pictured above is a remote control for a stand-up juke box. I believe it was called the Wall-O-Matic. A restored 1950's Seeburg will run you anywhere from 7000 to 15000 USD, not including the Wall-O-Matic.
